The NAWIC Philadelphia Foundation is pleased to announce the Block Kids Building Program will be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 Hall in Philadelphia. NAWIC works together with local companies and organizations to promote the construction industry as a career path for students. Block Kids is for boys and girls in grades 1 through 6. You can support this fun event by participating as follows:
Volunteer! We need volunteers for unpacking supplies, setup, registration, student escorts, monitoring, directing students, and clean-up activities. There will be two Foundation activity tables and one snack table that will need to be manned. Volunteers must be available at 7:30 AM to help set-up before the students arrive. If you are interested in being a Volunteer complete the form using the below link.
If you have not participated previously the event is an awesome experience and we are typically completed by noon on Saturday.
Volunteer RSVPs and Student Registrations ARE DUE BY: OCTOBER 10, 2024.
T-shirts are available to non-sponsors for $10.

2. Be a judge (a.k.a. Building Inspector) – This is an experience you won’t want to miss. As a judge you will talk to the children about their project and complete a scoring form. With expectations of up to 100 children, we will need lots of “Building Inspectors”. No experience is necessary. Judges are industry leaders, C-level local trade or business people, media people, etc. and monitors during the building contest. It is the responsibility of the judge to ensure that each child completes the project entirely on their own. All judging shall be conducted using official scoring forms, oral interview questions, and other criteria as established. The forms will be provided the day of the event. Judges are asked and selected by the Block Kids committee. If interested, contact Monica Robinson at mrobinson@philaflcio.org
3. Sponsor Items for Goody Bags and Prizes – Each child will receive a cinch sack with the Block Kids logo on it, filled with stuff. Items such as rulers, pencils, construction-type coloring books, crayons, plastic hard hat, t-shirt, etc. We also give out prizes to selected kids that visit all of the "trade tables" during the event. We set up an Amazon Wish list of some fun items. Look at the list HERE to purchase supplies as donations from our Amazon wish list.4. DONATE! – Financial contributions underwrite the costs of building blocks, competition supplies, rentals, prizes, food, and printing. Take a look at how to sponsor here.
As a sponsor, you and your company will be recognized the day of the event, on our website, and in upcoming promotional material. Your name and logo will also be on display at the event based on your giving level. We hope to have news crews broadcasting live to inform the public of our collective interest in promoting a construction career to children and parents.
5. Invite Kids! - The success of this program is due to the tremendous support received from the construction industry. Perhaps you have children and/or would be willing to promote this program within your company. Feel free to make copies of the Student Registration form to distribute to your child’s school, church, scouting club, family members, co-workers, etc. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at the numbers below or email us at BlockKids@NAWICPF.org
Best Regards
